Mariah Carey was busted for BUI – babbling under the influence – in Palm Springs, Calif., on Tuesday night as she returned to her loopy ways of old while giving an acceptance speech at a film festival.
The teetering diva, who won “breakthrough actress” in Precious at the Palm Springs Film Festival, greeted her presenter and director Lee Daniels with a little dance and a big hug.
Carey hesitated for a few seconds, looked to the ceiling, sighed and said, “Please forgive me, because I’m a little bit, um … ” An audience member finished the sentence for her with an obscenity, to which Carey replied, “Yeah!” adding a long, hearty laugh.
Her behavior tinged the rest of the proceedings. Before handing out an award to songwriter-producer T Bone Burnett, Sean Penn quipped, “Think anything’s going to make YouTube tonight?”
