Meryl Streep received the gift of a bronze statuette, the symbol of Rome, La Lupa Capitolina given to her by Rome’s Mayor Gianni Alemanno during Streep’s visit to the Campidoglio Capitol Hill in Rome, Italy on October 23, 2009.

The beloved actress is in Rome promoting her new film Julie and Julia. She doesn’t often do the red carpet couple thing very often. But she hits the red carpet at the premiere of Julie & Julia Friday with her husband, sculptor Don Gummer, on the final day of the Rome Film Festival.

Julie & Julia, which premiered in the US this summer, was a way for Meryl to pay tribute to her mother. “She had the same joie de vivre,” she said.

“Embedded in this film is the idea is that as long as you have food and shelter, the necessities… what makes you happy on top of that is very simple and it’s accessible to anyone,” Meryl shared. “It’s a lovely message and it’s certainly true.”
