Angelina Jolie

Pairing up for a swanky night on the town, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt attended the UNICEF Ball held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Thursday (December 10).

The “Mr and Mrs Smith” co-star couple mingled with a guest list including Matt Damon, Muhammad Ali, Bruce Willis and George Clooney – as the A-List guests turned up to honor producer Jerry Weintraub.

The glamour couple gave a combined 6.8 million dollars to charity in 2008. According to the 2008 tax return for the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, the amount was more than double what the Hollywood couple gave in 2007. The biggest recipients were Global Health with 2 million dollars, Human Rights Watch with 1 million dollars and Pitt’s Hurricane Katrina charity, the Make it Right Foundation, with 1 million dollars.

Other notable contributions included 500,000 dollars to the Armed Services YMCA of the US Army and about 1 million dollars to projects in Cambodia, the country from which Jolie adopted her first child.

During the ceremony, Clooney had the duty of presenting Weintraub with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award, joking with the crowd, “When it comes to charities, nobody guilts better.”

After being handed his award, Weintraub, who co-founded the nonprofit humanitarian organization Not On Our Watch Foundation with Clooney, Pitt, Damon, Don Cheadle and David Pressman, said, “When UNICEF came to me, and my friends came to me and asked me to do this, I said I will do it because of the crazy things going on in the world, and the help that we can give.”.”
