US teen idol Miley performed her first concert in Spain before 36,000 people on Sunday during the third day of the Rock in Rio Madrid music festival, organisers said.

Wearing a black leotard and heels, the 17-year-old sang “Can’t be tamed”, “The climb” and “When I look at you”, which is part of the soundtrack of her latest film “The Last Song” that premiered in Spain last month.

The crowd consisted mainly of adults and young children, mostly girls. Many climbed on the shoulders of their parents to get a better view of the stage.

While Cyrus has never performed in Spain before, she enjoys a huge following in the country due to the popularity of her television series “Hannah Montana”.

As a condition for playing at the festival held at Arganda del Rey located some 20 kilometres (12 miles) southeast of Madrid, she will not perform any other concert in Spain this year.

Her performance headlined a day dedicated to the family that featured two other youth-oriented acts — British pop band McFly and Scottish singer Amy Macdonald.

“I think adding Miley Cyrus to the event added a whole new dimension to Rock in Rio and attracted a different kind of audience,” Gary Bongiovonni, the president of Pollstar, a California-based company that provides worldwide concert tour information at its web site, told AFP.

Among the other artists lined up to perform at the festival, one of the world’s biggest which wraps up on June 14, are heavy metal veterans Metallica, US rockers Bon Jovi and Colombian pop star Shakira.

Rock in Rio was first held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in January 1985.

This is the second Rock in Rio Madrid. The first in 2008 was attended by 290,000 music fans. Organisers expect the total audience of this edition to reach 320,000 people.

After performing in front of tweens and teens at Rock in Rio Music Festival in Madrid, Spain over the weekend, Miley Cyrus hit the Villamagna Hotel in the country to launch her forthcoming studio album “Can’t Be Tamed”. She came to the event in high-waisted trousers, cut-away top which reveals her black bra and high-heeled Louboutin ankle boots.

Beside launching the June 22 release, Miley also attended the Sunday event to collect a Platinum Record plaque for the title track of the album. In addition, the “Hannah Montana” actress also sat down to answer questions from the press. Among other things that she talked about was “how she has matured as a songwriter and explains why love is at the core of what she does.”

“Can’t Be Tamed” will be Miley Cyrus’ last album before she takes temporary hiatus from music in order to focus on her acting career. “I just want to do films ’cause I like being someone else. My music is kind of like my diary. I’ll always do that … I just feel like the music industry isn’t as positive as I’d like it to be,” she opened up in a March appearance on “The View”.

Miley Cyrus performed during Day 4 of the “Rock in Rio” festival in Lisbon, Portugal yesterday (May 29), an event for the country’s children and youth. Many in the media saw Miley’s wardrobe as being inappropriate for her age and considering the nature of the festival, and her dance moves on stage were seen as too sexualized.

Hollywood veteran Debbie Reynolds has urged Miley not to rush into adulthood – because everyone is waiting for her to make a big mistake.

The actress/singer fears the teenager is making too many controversial moves in a bid to shake off her wholesome good girl image – and she needs to sit down with her family and carefully plot the future.

Miley has been hit by a string of controversies, from showing too much skin in photos to pole dancing at award shows and dirty dancing at a wrap party – and now family groups are upset with her latest video for hit single Can’t Be Tamed, in which the pop star writhes around with dancers.

And in her weekly advice column in the Globe, Reynolds warns Cyrus not to take her act too far.
She writes, “When I was a 16 year old working in Hollywood, I had two very strict parents and a movie studio to protect me. It was a different world in the 1950s.
“Today’s young stars can’t do anything without the whole world being able to see it.
“Miley and her family need to be aware of this as she outgrows her child star image.”

Miley Cyrus made an appearance on Good Morning America in Time Square in New York City yesterday (March 22) to promote her new movie The Last Song. Miley looked gorgeous dressed in a short Isabel Marant outfit and black tights, waving to her fans as she came on out. Among the topics discussed, Miley talked about having to learn to play the piano for her role in the movie. “I was glad it wasn’t necessarily something that was so easy!” Miley shared, adding, “I don’t think I could get accepted to Juilliard!”
The Last Song hits theaters Wednesday, March 31.

Miley will appear as a guest mentor to the remaining 11 finalists on tonight’s American Idol. She will help the contestants prepare to perform songs that have hit No. 1 on the Billboard chart Hot 100.
