
It’s hard to believe that Dora the Explorer is all grown up. What started as a bi-lingual animated play-along on Nickelodeon soon became an international cultural phenomenon. To commemorate the show’s 10th anniversary, Nickelodeon is set to air prime-time specials and a “Beyond the Backpack” campaign which, along with the Children’s Defense Fund, promotes school readiness and early literacy for young preschoolers.
Salma Hayek Pinault is among the celebrities joining Dora for the “Beyond the Backpack” campaign, including appearing with the titular character in a series of PSA’s airing on Nickelodeon. She’s also just one of the celebrities designing Dora-inspired backpacks for auction this summer, with proceeds benefitting the Children’s Defense Fund.
